·       We are upstairs for services again!!!

·       Knox Last weekend of August  – Rock ‘n’ Roll Car Show, August 26^th; we are doing the barbecue again, and will need people to help cook and serve – please talk to Dennis if you’re able to help out. We are also preparing a meal for Evangel Hall, to be served on Sunday, the 28 in the evening. We are going to be cooking about 80 pounds of meatloaf and 80 pounds of potatoes, so we will need some potato peelers at the church on Saturday, as well as some folks willing to cook a meatloaf in their oven at home on Saturday afternoon!

·       Farewell - The Knox family is saddened to learn that Lynda Strathdee has moved to Strathroy, Ontario, to be closer to family (her son, Philip, moved there with his family a couple of years ago).  This happened VERY rapidly, and as you read this, she has already departed!  Lynda has been a member of Knox for many years, and was elected as an Elder in 1991, taking over as our Roll Clerk in 1992.  She has a tremendously large heart for friendship and fellowship and was a linchpin that kept many of us connected, and she will be tremendously missed by everyone in the Knox family!  Her new address will be made available soon.  At an appropriate time, this Fall, we will give her an appropriate farewell during worship and Coffee Hour.  

·       Return To Old Ways - Starting on September 11th, Knox's Session has resolved that we will be returning to certain "old ways" in worship, including hand-out bulletins and congregational readers for announcements / responsive psalms.  If you are willing to take on one of these roles and be put on a rotation list, please speak to Rev. Steve or to Charles.

·       Prayers for this Week –

o  People who are persecuted for their beliefs and their values, to the point of losing their jobs, careers, and even their lives, as they attempt to pursue honesty, truth, and justice
o   Those who are quick and sharp with their words when some calm and gentle words would perhaps be more effective
o   Those who are struggling because they are receiving no rain, as well as those who are struggling because they are receiving too much
o   People who are dealing with old wounds and old scars, with attempts and apologies and attempts at forgiveness.

·       Peter Barrow's Birthday Luncheon - please join us in the large hall at Knox following the service on Sunday for a luncheon to celebrate Peter Barrow's 90th Birthday. Everyone is welcome.

·       Summer Services: Limehouse will be closed during the month of July and all members are invited to attend Knox, services will occur in the Large Hall at 10 am. 

·       Even though we are closed for the month of July, expenses of approximately  $2300.00 will still need to be covered. If you could manage to add an additional amount to the offering today or arrange to drop off cheques to Cathy Brown for July,  it would be much appreciated.

·       Pray also for:

·       For Rev. Peter Barrow as we celebrate his birthday, and all other "retired" ministers who continue to do the things of ministry (just not full-time!).

·       For students and teachers everywhere as school ends for the summer, and especially for those not headed back in the fall due to graduation or retirement

·       For the 38,000 federal and provincial inmates (sentenced) across Canada, that they may turn their backs on life as it was and embrace new hope for a life that may yet be

·       For those dreaming of vacation, that they may find "Sabbath rest" instead of travel stress!

The Reverend Peter Barrow

Minister of Knox Presbyterian 1972-2001

On Sunday June 26^th

There will be a luncheon at 12:15 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian

Please feel free to come even if you are unable to attend the 11:00 a.m. service.               

The Reverend Peter Barrow, BD

Peter Barrow served as the Minister at Knox from 1972-2001.  He was born in Derbyshire, England in 1932, but soon moved to Notinghamshire.  He lived through German bombings near his home as a teenager during World War II and then joined the Royal Air Force at age 17 and became a Flying Officer and would serve for three years.

He holds a BA and a BD from Trinity Theological College at the University of Glasglow.  He married his wife Carol in Glasglow.  They had three children.

He was ordained in January 1961. He served as an Associate Minister at the Eastwood Parish Church in Glasglow with a congregation of 2500. After his marriage, he became the Minister of a Church of Scotland congregation in Dennyloanhead in Sterlingshire at the combined parish of Dennyloanhead and St. Helen’s, High Bonnybridge where he served for 11 years with a congregation of about 1600. After moving to Canada he became the 15^th Minister of Knox Presbyterian. He served in this position for 29 years from 1972-2001.  During this time, he worked with five different Clerks of Session, five different treasures, with at least seven different secretaries, and four different organists.  Of the 18 different Ministers that Knox has had since 1860, he is the longest serving.

He was awarded the Citizen of the Year award by the Lions Club of Georgetown in 1975.

Some of his various activities included: First Chairman of the County Children’s Hearings in Sterlingshire, Scotland; Set up Contact Centre and trained volunteers; Executive Member of the Halton Region Human Service Council; Driver for the Georgetown Cancer Society; Governor for the Oaklands Regional Centre for the Mentally Retarded in Oakville; Director of Georgetown YMCA/YWCA; Chaplain for Brampton Prison; Padre for Branch 120, Royal Canadian Legion, Georgetown; Georgetown Air Cadets; and the Volunteer Firefighters,  He was also trained as a firefighter as well; President of the Rotary Club of Georgetown; and board member of the Halton Hills Legal Clinic.

·       Summer Services: From July 3^rd to Aug 14^th, services will occur in the Large Hall at 10 am.  Limehouse will be closed during the month of July and all members are invited to attend Knox.

·       For students, teachers, and parents, as they enter the last week of school for this year (hopefully to never have another like it!)

·       For camp staff as they prepare to open their gates for the first time in three years for campers and junior counsellors alike

·       For summer, and all the blessings that come with the change of the season

· Limehouse Paving - The paving around the church will be receiving its foundation layer starting this Monday, June 13th. Expect delays if you are driving around through that area this week.

· Special Birthday Luncheon - please plan to attend a special coffee hour luncheon on June 26th to celebrate and honour Peter Barrow's 90th Birthday. We are looking for volunteers to clean 4 - 5 lbs of carrots into carrots sticks, clean and cut 2 - 3 stalks of celery, make sandwiches on Saturday afternoon and decorate a birthday card basket. If you are able to help with any of the above, please see Dennis.

· Pray also for:

· For the Commissioners and volunteers who have returned from virtually attending General Assembly last week, adapting to the slightly different face of the Church in its wake

· For those who are coming to the end of their lives, that they may have peace and comfort and that their families may feel the Holy Spirit with them

· For those making summer plans, that all will be safe as they travel or content as they remain home.

· For all who strive to bring blessings of love and grace to the world wherever they go, spreading the peace of Christ to all whom they meet

· On Sunday, we will be marking the 70th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession as the Queen of Canada. We will celebrate her 70 years of service to Canadians, and others around the Commonwealth.

· General Assembly - The Venerable the 146th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada is meeting this week, with Rev. Steve "attending" as a Commissioner. The meetings are online again this year, and if you wish to watch, links are available through www.presbyterian.ca.

· Holy Communion - Please remember to bring your elements to worship this morning! We hope and pray that we can have common plates in October, one way or another.

· Charles will be out of the office at Knox 3-8 June; he can still be reached via email.

· Limehouse Memorial Service: Thank you to all who contributed to making Memorial Day a success. We truly appreciated those who contributed foods, served food and beverages, and those who helped with the set up and take down.

· Pray also for:

o The Commissioners for General Assembly (including Rev. Steve), as well as the Assembly Council, the Standing Committees of our Church, and everyone who will be gathering this week for GA, that they may make decisions that represent both holy and human wisdom

o Members of self-help groups as they try to stand with each other through difficult times in the lives of either themselves or those whom they love

o Businesses as they gear up for summer, and students as they seek jobs wherever they can get them

o Someone, somewhere out there, whom you’ve never met, but who you hope and pray is aware that they are a child of God.
