POSTLUDE
ANNOUNCEMENTS
We
welcome you, our Church family, to worship this morning. May God continue to
bless us here at Limehouse.
Today is the first Sunday of Lent.
The
Season of Lent was a traditional time of preparation for the celebration of
Jesus’ resurrection. Dating back to very early times, people would fast
and otherwise deprive themselves of things that had given them earthly pleasure
to focus more clearly on what Christ’s death and resurrection meant for
them. Forty days, reflecting Jesus’ time in the wilderness, were set
aside for this fasting – six weeks of six days (Sabbath days are excluded) plus
four days at the beginning (moving back to Ash Wednesday). “Giving up
something for Lent” is supposed to be a private fast – giving up chocolate and
wailing about it until Easter morning is not the intention! A full
“fast” was intended to take the time normally spent preparing food (could be up
to three hours in a day) to focus oneself in prayer. However you choose
to do it, take these weeks to prepare yourself in your heart, mind and soul for
celebrating what Christ did for you, and for the whole world!
Sacrament of Holy Communion next Sunday, March 1st.

Equipping
congregations
Gifts to Presbyterians
Sharing help equip and strengthen congregations through workshops and
events. In the past year, Stewards By Design helped congregations
discover how stewardship connects to all aspects of a congregation’s mission and ministry. Dr.
Stanley Ott’s workshops helped congregations learn basic strategies for growing
disciples. PCC ministers and lay
leaders attending the Ecumenical
Stewardship Center’s
leadership seminar explored generational differences and how they impact
stewardship and philanthropy. As congregations grow and learn together, mission
happens!
